Sauteed Red Cabbage

Sautéed red cabbage is a favorite side dish and tastes great even when cold. Try this recipe with a secret ingredient: cinnamon instead of ground cloves. Be ready for compliments.
Servings: 6


  • 2 Tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 lbs. red cabbage shredded
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves or ground cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp of red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup natural applesauce


  • Heat oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
  • Add onions and saute for 5 minutes.
  • Add cabbage and cook for 3 minutes until cabbage wilts.
  • Blend in cloves or cinnamon, vinegar, and sugar. Continue to stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Blend in applesauce and continue to cook for 15 minutes. Stir frequently.
