
This Turkey Glazed Southern Style recipe blends sweet honey with the bold spices of chili powder and red pepper for a zesty kick to the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The simple to follow directions make this dish a hit in the kitchen as well as on the table.
Ingredients
1 (15 lb) whole turkey, thawed
3 Tbsp canola oil
2 Tbsp honey
1 tsp cold water
2 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp ground red pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
Instructions
Remove the neck and giblets from the turkey.
Rinse the turkey in cold water, then pat dry inside and out.
Preheat the oven to 325F degrees.
Twist the wing tips to hold them back.
Brush the skin with canola oil, making sure to cover the whole turkey.
Spray a rack with non stick cooking spray and place it in a deep roasting pan.
Place the turkey, breast up, on the prepared rack.
Cover the breast and legs loosely with foil.
Roast for 2 hours.
Remove foil and cook an additional 45 minutes.
In a small mixing bowl, combine honey, water, chili powder, red pepper, garlic powder, allspice, cumin, salt and pepper. Whisk until fully blended.
After turkey has cooked uncovered for 45 minutes, brush with the glaze. Be sure to cover the entire turkey with the glaze.
Continue roasting an additional 45 minutes basting every 15 minutes if necessary.
Remove the turkey and allow it to stand at least 20 minutes before carving.
