Cabbage slaw is easy to make in a skillet on your stove top. Vinegar adds an unexpected bit of tang. Serve hot or cold.
Ingredients
1/4 C butter
1/2 t season salt
1 head of cabbage, shredded
1/4 white onion, chopped
3 T of vinegar
1 T sugar
1 carrot, shredded (optional)
Instructions
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Stir in salt.
Add cabbage, onion and carrot, stirring to coat all with butter.
Cover, reduce heat to medium and cook for 15 minutes, stirring often.
In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar and sugar.
When sugar has dissolved, pour mixture over cabbage and stir well to blend.
Cook until vinegar mixture is thoroughly heated, about 5 minutes.
Serves 6.
