Ingredients
2 teaspoons 2 active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups 1 1/2 warm water (110°F)
4 cups 4 all-purpose flour
1/4 cup 1/4 extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling
1 teaspoon 1 salt
2 teaspoons 2 sugar
1 tablespoon 1 fresh rosemary, chopped
1 teaspoon 1 coarse sea salt
Directions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water and then add the yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it starts to foam.
- Add the flour, olive oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10-15 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough in half and press each half into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Use your fingers to make dimples in the dough, then drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with rosemary and coarse sea salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack. Drizzle with more olive oil before serving if desired.
Notes
- This recipe makes 2 9×13 inch loaves of focaccia bread. You can customize the recipe by adding your favorite herbs, olives, or sun-dried tomatoes.
